Margaret Hilda Thatcher

(1925 - ), English Conservative stateswoman. In 1959 she became MP for Finchley. She defeated Edward Heath in the Tory leadership campaign of 1975, to become the first woman to lead a major British political party. In 1979 she became prime minister and resigned in 1990.
