[born Jean Louis Kerouac], (1922-69), American novelist and poet. He wrote a number of books including "On the Road", "Mexico City Blues" and "The Subterraneans".

Jack William Harrison Dempsey

(1895 - 1983), American boxer. He was world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926.

(1940 - ), American golfer. He is one of the greatest golfers of all time, having won more major tournaments than any other player in history.

Douglas MacArthur

(1880 - 1964), American general. He was commander of the US Far East forces in 1941. In 1942 he made the famous pledge 'I shall return', when the Japanese forced him to withdraw from the Philippines. He was appointed supreme Allied commander in the southwest Pacific in 1942 and gradually rolled back the Japanese forces, accepting their surrender in 1945. At the beginning of the Korean War in 1950 he commanded the UN forces.
