(1906 - 1993), Polish-born American micro- biologist. In the mid-1950s he developed the Sabin polio vaccine.

Albert Reynolds

(1933 - ), Irish politician. In 1977 he was elected in 1977 as a Fianna Fail member. He became taoiseach (prime minister) in 1992.

Dorothy Hodgkin

[born Dorothy Mary Crowfoot], (1910 - 1994), English chemist. In 1964 she was awarded the Nobel prize for chemistry for her work on the molecular structures of penicillin, insulin and vitamin B12.
